Life 2 picks up years after the doomed mission of the first film, exploring humanity’s attempt to rebuild after the terrifying discovery of extraterrestrial life. Earth has recovered from the chaos sparked by the leaked footage of the deadly organism known as Calvin. Although officials deny that the creature ever reached the planet, many scientists believe otherwise. The film begins with Dr. Lena Ward, a xenobiologist, who uncovers classified transmissions suggesting that a second organism may have survived the events on the International Space Station. Determined to uncover the truth, she joins a new space program tasked with investigating strange signals detected near Jupiter’s orbit.
Lena becomes part of a small, highly trained crew aboard the spacecraft Horizon. The team includes Commander Rivas, pilot Theo Park, engineer Shea Morales, and medical officer Dr. Cole. Their mission is to track the source of the signals, which appear to come from the wreckage of the original ISS. As they approach the debris field, they discover fragments fused with an unknown organic substance, confirming their worst fears: something did survive. The tension grows heavier as the crew debates whether to return home or continue investigating, but the decision is made for them when the Horizon becomes entangled in the same biological material.

Forced to dock with a crippled research module drifting near Jupiter, the crew explores its dark, frozen corridors. They uncover logs from a previous team who attempted to study the organism, only to be hunted down one by one. The remaining evidence reveals a shocking truth—Calvin has evolved. The creature is larger, smarter, and capable of splitting into smaller forms, allowing it to spread rapidly. As the crew realizes they are trapped, the film shifts into a desperate survival struggle reminiscent of the first movie but even more relentless and claustrophobic.
One by one, the Horizon crew faces terrifying encounters as Calvin infiltrates the ship. Lena discovers that the creature is learning from each interaction, adapting to their technology and tactics. Amid the chaos, she uncovers data suggesting that Calvin may be part of a species designed to colonize planets by wiping out native life. This revelation brings a new urgency: not only must they survive, but they must prevent the organism from reaching Earth again.

As the situation worsens, Commander Rivas sacrifices himself to give Lena and the remaining survivors a chance to escape. They make a final attempt to trap Calvin inside the research module and send it hurtling into Jupiter’s atmosphere. The plan works, but only partially—one fragment of the organism clings to their escape craft. The film ends with Lena staring at the surviving organism in horror as Earth comes into view, leaving audiences with a chilling cliffhanger that hints at an even darker future for humanity.
